This half term we are working on developing knot skills, to use in our woodlands as the year progresses. Over the first few weeks of term I will be introducing the children to techniques for hanking cord and ropes, the clove hitch knot (rollercoaster knot) and a square lashing.

Clove hitch knots can be created in two ways; to begin with we are looking at making a clove hitch by creating two loops in the string (as below) and passing them over a stick or pole. Later in the year we will introduce the wraparound method too…
