Year 1 in the woods, Autumn term

In our last session Miss Jenkins organised bonfire night treats! We safely used sparklers to write our names before enjoying chocolate apples or gingerbread and hot chocolate.  The fairies left the children an offering of rainbow fairy fire and we returned the favour by leaving the fairies offerings of feathers, sycamore leaves and red leaves for their fairy outfits…  We began learning about the food that animals eat and had a go at sorting animals into herbivores (plant eaters), carnivores (meat eaters), insectivores (bug eaters) and omnivores (everything eaters!)

Children have been putting their overhand knotting skills into context, threading and tying conkers onto string.   We also caught falling leaves and used collected oak leaves to complete a colour study together.

There was an opportunity for children to toast marshmallows, with adult support, to celebrate the change in the weather!

As well as all the hard work that the children have done on developing their knotting skills, there has been plenty of time for play…

Sorting seeds (acorns), peduncles (stalks) and leaves
Using a gimlet and gloves to bore a hole in the conker
