Year 1 in the woods, Summer 2022

It’s been fabulous to work with the Year 1 children again, and we’ve had lovely weather for it.  We were learning all about plants this week, building on learning from last term in Science.  We identified the parts of various plants and remembered the jobs that they do.  We noticed the huge variety in shape, size and colour of plants and found out more about how they reproduce- we found hundreds of seeds on the forest floor which we have saved to plant.

We also began to practise our knotting skills, recalling the overhand knot and practising until we had nailed it… next week we’ll have a go at undoing knots too!!

We followed up this plant work this week by going on a school- wide seed hunt, the children identified seeds in fruit trees, on bramble plants, in the rhubarb plants in the Platinum Jubilee Garden and in Forest school area.  We chose some of these to plant to explore what happens next if we give the seeds warmth and water.
